The Magellan Project 2018
The Magellan Project 2018:
The Magellan Project is a unique experience offered by
W&J, allowing students to study anything, anywhere! Last summer I studied
the effects of animal sanctuaries and how the Australia and NZ act to conserve
different ecosystems. This summer I traveled to Thailand to volunteer at an
animal rescue center and elephant sanctuary, "Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand." The project is designed to provide
students with a scholarship they are awardee after presenting their idea to the
school and then traveling either abroad or in the country by themselves. The
topic of study can be either a passion or realted to the student’s major. When
applying for a Magellan, the student must be certain criteria such as a certain
GPA, having research on the topic, a budget, and all travel plans included. The
application process starts in the fall and the students find out in the spring
around March.
