June 13 - 15
I arrived at the Pittsburgh airport with my parents a couple hours before I would conqueror an airplane all by myself. Once entering the doors of the airport, it finally hit me that I would be alone for the next month. I admit I was nervous and I could barely manage a goodbye to my parents, but I made it. I went through airport security smoothly and found my way to my gate. I eventually boarded my first airplane alone and after almost two hours, I landed in Atlanta. I have traveled to the Atlanta airport multiple times before, so finding my way was no trouble. I finally boarded my second flight and after almost 5 hours I landed in Los Angeles, California. Here I met a family from Pittsburgh who quickly introduced themselves to me, since we were all wearing Pittsburgh Penguins shirts. Luckily, we helped each other through the busy airport in LA and we quickly started boarding the last flight to Sydney. This flight was twenty hours long and each hour went past slower. From the crying children to the boy kicking my seat every five minutes, I was relieved to finally land in Australia. From the airport, I rode a train to a station close to the hostel I will be staying in for the next two nights. The train station was incredibly crowded and it was difficult to understand my way around. Thankfully, I found my way to the street and my hostel after an hour, even though the hostel was only four minutes from the train station. The weather is about 58 degrees here and most people are wearing winter coats, gloves, and hats. For me, the weather is not cold enough for any of this yet and I am sweating in my jacket. Now I am currently typing on a computer located within my hostel because I don't want to pay for WiFi. Surprisingly, the hostel is extremely clean and everyone here is friendly and helpful. It is only 10:45 AM and I have an entire day ahead of me, even though I'm already falling asleep. Today and tomorrow I will be exploring Sydney and doing various activities.
